A Bit About Us
Elizabeth Godber set up Smashing Mirrors in 2017, as a Hull-based company that is committed to creating new acoustic musical theatre.
After a successful run of mental health musical 'The Loneliest Girl in the World' at the Edinburgh Fringe 2017, and subsequent mini-tour around the East Riding, the company developed a relationship with Hull New Theatre, to continue creating new musicals and issue-based theatre.
We have worked with 'Butterflies Memory Loss Support Group' to become a Dementia-Friendly organisation.
Smashing Mirrors employs a variety of creatives, if you are interested in working with us, please contact us through our online form.
It’s 1835 and Lottie and Maud are travelling home to East Yorkshire for Christmas. But things aren’t quite as they remember, and as the presents are placed under the tree, carols are sung, and the turkey arrives, their uneasiness grows. Is it them, or is it the festive spirits?
From the company that brought you 'The Remarkable Tale of Dorothy Mackaill', celebrate the season in chilling style.

THE REMARKABLE TALE OF DOROTHY MACKAILL
'The Remarkable Tale of Dorothy Mackaill' played at Hull New Theatre's studio in June/July 2019.
"From Hull to Hollywood to Honolulu.
Dorothy Mackaill was Hull’s own star of the silver screen, but how did a girl from Chanterlands Ave become a darling of 1920s American cinema?"
Smashing Mirrors Theatre brings you the extraordinary forgotten tale of runaways, glitz, glamour and the golden age of movies.

The Memory Project
'The Memory Project' is a short one-act verbatim play.
Based on interviews with real-life Yorkshire families, 'The Memory Project' is a show designed to raise dementia awareness and start conversations.
After the success of the show last year, Smashing Mirrors is now working in association with Dementia Friendly East Riding and East Riding Council to bring the show to students across East Riding Schools in November 2019.
'The Memory Project' is at Beverley Parkway Cinema on Saturday 16th November at 5pm.
'Three Emos' is an Emotional-rock Dementia-awareness musical written and directed by Elizabeth Godber with a fully original soundtrack.
First developed as an R&D at Hull New Theatre in 2018, the show grew into a Northern tour in October 2018, and a national tour in May 2019, both supported by Arts Council England.
'Three Emos' has played at theatres including Greenwich Theatre, Oldham Coliseum, Harrogate Theatre, Stephen Joseph Theatre, CAST in Doncaster and Hereford Courtyard.
'Three Emos' was developed with the help of Butterflies Memory Loss Support Group, Dementia Friendly East Riding, Makeup By Liberty, Liverpool John Moore's University and Wykeland.
